Cette communauté religieuse fut fondée vers 1856 à Lyon en France où était déjà érigée l’archiconfrérie des Cinq Plaies. L’Abbé Adrien Colomb de Gast et la Très Révérende Mère Octavie Delaunay en furent les fondateurs.

Le but principal de l’Institut est de rendre aux Cinq Plaies de notre sauveur le culte de l’adoration, de louange et d’amour qui leur est dû, pour l’immense bienfait de la Rédemption qu’elles nous ont procuré. Les œuvres principales qui contribuent à l’exercice de cet but sont la psalmodie de l’office canonial, la propagation du culte des Cinq Plaies, l’éducation de la jeunesse et toutes autres œuvres qui peuvent aider le clergé paroissial ou missionaire dans l’accomplissement de sa mission.

En 1932, au départ des Sœurs Oblates préposées au soin du Collège Catholique de Gravelbourg, le Père Josaphat Magnan, O.M.I., alors Provincial, invitait la communauté à prendre charge de la cuisine et de l’entretien du Collège. En 1944, ces collaboratrices des Pères Oblats se retirèrent du service du Collège pour être remplacées par les Petites Sœurs de la Sainte Famille. Elles sont connues aujourd`hui sous le nom de Sœurs du Sauveur.
 
 
 

This religious family was founded in 1856 in Lyon, France, which existed as a confraternity of the Five Wounds. Father Adrien Colomb de Gast and the Reverend Mother Octavie Delaunay were the founders of this community.

This institute’s objective is to honor the wounds of the Saviour by adoration, praise and love for the Lord. The means by which this goal was to be achieved were the chanting of the Divine Office, the spreading of the devotion to the Five Wounds, the education of the youth and the many undertakings that would be of aide to the local and missionary clergy.

In 1932, the Oblate Sisters , who were responsible for the upkeep of the Collège Catholique de Gravelbourg, requested to be allowed to dedicate their time to the education of the Kindergarten students. Father Josaphat Magnan, O.M.I., Provincial of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, invited the Canonesses to take charge of the domestic duties at the Collège.

These devoted collaborators of the Oblate Fathers commited twelve years to the Collège and in 1944, were replaced by the Little Sisters of the Holy Family. The community of the Canonesses is now known as the Sisters of the Saviour.
