Cette congrégation vit le jour à Memramcook au Nouveau-Brunswick le 31 mai 1880. Elle eut pour fondateurs le Père Camille Lefebvre, Religieux de Sainte-Croix et la Révérende Mère Marie-Léonie, Religieuse de Sainte-Croix de Notre Dame, Indiana, États-Unis. Cet institut est placé sous le patronage de la Sainte Famille de Jésus, Marie et Joseph.

Le but de cet institut est le service du clergé par la prière et les travaux manuels dans les délégations apostoliques, les évêchés, les seminaires, les collèges et les communautés religieuses de prêtres. Ces âmes admirables ont pour devise : «Piété et Dévouement ».

C’est au mois de septembre 1944, cinq Petites Sœurs de la Ste-Famille arrivent au Collège, venant relever les Chanoinesses des Cinq Plaies, dans le service des prêtres et des collègiens. Cinques religieuses sont parmi les fondatrices : Sœurs Alexina Gagnon, Clara Toupin, Jeanne Boivin, Mélina Gilbert et Ida Couturier.

Sans le moindre répit, de 7 heures du matin à 8 heures du soir, elles sont sur la brèche, à la cuisine ou à la buanderie.

Le 15 juillet 1949, quatre autres « Petites Sœurs » sont venu relever aux Petites Missionaires Saint-Joseph à l’évêché et plus tard au presbytère. Ces sœurs sont : les Sœurs Marie Gallant, Blanche Bélanger, Alice Trépanier et Thérèse Turenne.

Lors du départ des Pères Oblats à la direction du Collège Mathieu en 1976, les religieuses se retirèrent également du collège mais continuèrent à s’occuper de l’évêché jusqu’en juillet 1980. Quelle belle exemple ces « Petites Sœurs » ont sû donner à la communauté. Elles ont été une source de grâces.
 
 
 

This religious congregation was founded at Memramcook, N.B. on May 31st, 1880. The founders were Father Camille Lefebvre, a religious of the Holy Cross and Reverend Mother Marie-Léonie also a religious of the Holy Cross but from Notre-Dame, Indiana.

This Institute is placed under the patronage of the Saint Family of Jesus, Mary and of Joseph.

The purpose of the Institute is to provide service to the clergy by prayer and manual work in apostolic delegations, bishops’ residences, seminaries, colleges and other communities of priests. These admirable souls follow the motto :« Pity and Devotion ».

It was in September, 1944 five Sisters of the Holy Family arrived at the Collège to graciously relieve the Canonesses Regular of the Five Wounds of their domestic services. Five sisters founded this new house : Sisters Alexine Gagnon, Clara Toupin, Jeanne Boivin, Mélina Gilbert and Ida Couturier.

Without respite, these hardworking Sisters would always be found in either the the kitchen or the laundry room from 7a.m. to 8 p.m. .

In the month of July, 1949 four more Sisters of the Holy Family were invited to relieve the Little Missionaries of St.Joseph of their responsibilities towards the Bishop’s residence and soon after of the presbytery. These Sisters were Marie Gallant, Blanche Bélanger, Alice Trépanier and Thérèse Turenne.

In 1976, the Oblate Fathers resigned from the direction of the Collège as did the Sisters resign from their domestic responsibilities but they continued on in the upkeep of the Bishop’s residence until 1980. These devoted Sisters were exemplary models in our community.
