En février 1929, le
Révérend Abbé Charles Maillard fit venir quatre belles
cloches "Paccard" de la célèbre fonderie française
"PACCARD" qui se situe à Annecy-le-Vieux, en Haute Savoie par l'entremise
de leurs représentant généraux en l'Amérique
du Nord, C. Émile Morissette, Limitée au Québec. Il
a commandé la série "Fa", "Si Bémol", "Ré"
et un petit "Fa", un accord parfait et très harmonieux en soi avec
le "Do" de la cloche de la paroisse Ste. Philomène qui était
déjà sur les lieux. Le "Do" avait été acheté
en 1912 de la Maison Bollée de Mans en France (cette fonderie est
disparue après la première guerre mondiale). Les cloches,
dont la valeur cumulative était $2190,25, furent payées par
une souscription spéciale lancée par l'abbé Maillard.
Il fit inscrire sur les cloches les noms de tous ceux et celles qui ont
soumis un don de $5,00 et plus pour l'achat de ceux-çi. Au cours
de l'été 1930 et pendant les préparatifs des fêtes
de réception et d'installation du premier évêque de
Gravelbourg, Mgr J.M.R. Villeneuve, Msgr Maillard eut la grande joie de
recevoir ce nouveau carillon de cloches. L'abbé Elie J. Auclair,
dans son texte qui nous parle les débuts de Gravelbourg, décrit
les cloches de cette façon: "Voix du ciel qui parle à
la terre et voix de la terre qui parle au ciel, pour apporter aux hommes
l'appel de Dieu ou porter à Dieu la prière des hommes, les
nouvelles cloches arrivaient à point pour chanter aussi la bienvenue
à celui qui venait au nom du Seigneur." Les cloches
Ste. Philomène de Gravelbourg, Pierre, Charles et Joseph-Emilienne
équivalant de 2200 livres sont installées dans le clocher
du côté ouest et la cloche Philomène, dédiée
à l'ancienne patronne de l'église et pèse 2100 livres
par elle-même a été installé dans le clocher
du côté est.

In February of 1929, Most
Reverend Father Charles Maillard placed an order with C. Émile Morrisette
Limited, from Québec, the North American representatives of the
famous French bell foundry of "PACCARD" d'Annecy-le Vieux, Haute. He purchased
four bells of the "Fa", "Si B flat", "Ré" and "Fa" series, which
is a perfect and harmonious chord for the "Do", a bell that the Saint Philomena
Parish owned since 1912. The "Do" bell came from the Maison Bollée
of Mans, France (this House has been closed since the ending of the First
World War). In order to pay for these distinguished bells, which was the
sum of $2190.25, Father Maillard had to request special contributions from
his parishionners. Whoever offered a donation of $5.00 or more, had their
name engraved on a bell. In the summer of 1930, before the celebrations
had occured for the installation of the first Bishop of Gravelbourg, Bishop
J.M.R. Villeneuve, Msgr Maillard accepted with joy the arrival of the new
"Paccard" Bells. In his text of the beginnings of Gravelbourg, Father Elie
J. Auclair described the bells as follows: "Voice of heaven that
speaks to earth and voice of earth that speaks to heaven, that brings to
all men the call of God and delivers to God the prayers of all men, the
new Cathedral bells have arrived to sing for the welcoming of he who has
come in the name of God." The Saint Philomena of Gravelbourg,
Pierre, Charles and Joseph-Emilienne Bells, tallying a weight of 2200 pounds,
were placed in the West Bell Tower and the Philomena Bell weighing 2100
pounds alone, dedicated to the former patron of the Parish, was installed
in the East Bell Tower.
